1. Counsel:
Meaning: to give advice, especially on social or personal problems
Sentence: The police have provided experts to counsel local people affected by the tragedy.
2. Council:
Meaning: a group of people elected or chosen to make decisions or give advice on a particular subject, to represent a particular group of people, or to run a particular organization
Sentence: This play is supported by a grant from the local arts council.
3. Distinct:
Meaning: clearly noticeable; that certainly exists
Sentence: There’s a distinct smell of cigarettes in here.
4. Distinctive:
Meaning: Something that is distinctive is easy to recognize because it is different from other things
Sentence: She’s got a very distinctive voice.
5. Apposite:
Meaning: suitable and right for the occasion
Sentence: It is, however, apposite to note that this process will continue in the year ahead.
6. Opposite:
Meaning: completely different
Sentence: You’d never know they’re sisters – they’re completely opposite to each other in every way.
